I'll finish off my blogs from Vanuatu with a collage of photos. The country is lush and green with beautiful beaches, especially along its eastern coast. One of these beaches, Champagne Beach is listed in guide books as one of the South Pacific's most beautiful.
I was able to enjoy my first Coconut Crab meal right on the beach. Lots of work to get a meal out of this one - but tasty...
The people are friendly and live fairly simple and subsistent lives. They are mostly black and tend to have somewhat flat faces.
The local markets are important for families to acquire some cash to buy some of the basics they can't produce - flour, sugar, salt, cooking oil, rice, etc.
Religion is a very important part of life in Vanuatu. Several churches are represented - Presbyterian, Catholic, Mormons and Seventh Day Adventist. Sunday is church day and pretty much the whole country attends a service somewhere.
Soon I'm off to Tonga & Samoa, two other South Pacific islands. People living in Vanuatu are considered part of the Melanesian culture. The two islands I'm headed to are considered part of the Polynesian culture.
